When I started my health and fitness journey, my focus was about initially getting fitter, healthier, and losing weight. Whether it was lifting weights, pushing through a Body Combat class, or getting in my daily steps, I believed that exercise was the key to transformation. But over time, I realised something was missing, the role of nutrition in not just performance but overall health.
Understanding the Bigger Picture
Like many people, I thought I had a decent grasp of nutrition. Eat more protein, cut down on sugar, drink water – simple, right? But the more I trained, the more I saw inconsistencies in my progress. Some weeks I felt great, full of energy, and making strength gains, while others left me sluggish and unmotivated. I knew I needed to understand what was happening beyond just calories in and calories out. The best decision I ever made was to invest in myself with a nutritionist and that was life changing.
Making Informed Choices
After a couple of years, I really wanted to understand more about nutrition and why this had such an impact on my health and one of my main motivations for completing a nutrition course back in 2024 was to cut through the overwhelming amount of misinformation out there. From fad diets to quick fixes, it’s easy to get caught up in trends that promise fast results but aren’t sustainable. I wanted to learn the science behind food, macronutrients, and how to fuel my body effectively – not just for fitness but for long-term health.
Enhancing My Own Performance
As a LesMills Body Combat instructor, I push my body to its limits. Understanding nutrition at a deeper level has helped me fine-tune my energy levels, recovery, and overall endurance. Learning about nutrient timing, hydration strategies, and the impact of different foods on my body has made a noticeable difference in how I perform and recover after workouts. We are all different, but it’s important to fuel your body in the right way, consistent habits I’ve implemented on days I work out and especially when I teach a class.
At this stage, my focus is on deepening my own knowledge of nutrition as part of my journey. Everything starts with what you put inside your body. Learning more about nutrition has helped me make more conscious choices, allowing me to support my training and overall well-being. While I may share insights along the way, this process is first and foremost about equipping myself with the knowledge to improve my own health and performance.
Make That Investment In You
Completing a nutrition course was one of the best investments I’ve made in my health and fitness journey. It reinforced the idea that fitness is about more than just movement – it’s about fuelling the body correctly and making sustainable choices. Whether you’re an athlete, a casual gym-goer, or someone looking to improve daily health, understanding nutrition is key. If you’ve ever felt stuck in your progress or confused about what to eat, I highly recommend taking the time to educate yourself. It doesn’t mean you need to follow a rigid plan, but having a solid foundation will empower you to make better choices that align with your goals.
