I’ve never been big on New Year’s resolutions, they tend to be loud, unrealistic and forgotten by mid January. What I do believe in is the reset (more than once a year for sure) and that’s something a new year does offer, not a clean slate where everything magically changes overnight, but a pause. A chance to check in and realign.
January isn’t about becoming a new version of yourself. It’s about remembering what actually matters and stripping back the noise.
The Challenge of the New Year
The start of the year can feel heavy. Short days, low energy, pressure to be motivated, pressure to perform. Social feeds are full of extremes, new plans, new bodies, new goals – It can make you feel like you’re already behind before the year has even properly started and that’s the real challenge, mot motivation, not discipline, but focus!
A reset is quieter. It asks better questions.
- What’s working right now for you
- What’s draining you
- What do you want more of
- What can you realistically sustain
For me, the reset always comes back to the same foundations. Health, my kids, work that gives me flexibility and purpose and Body Combat that supports my body rather than punishes it. Routines that keep me steady when life gets messy. None of that needs a deadline or a dramatic declaration.
Health & Fitness Without the All or Nothing
From a training perspective, January doesn’t need to mean more. It usually needs to mean smarter.
- Consistency over intensity
- Movement over punishment
- Recovery over ego
Some weeks will be strong and some weeks will be average – both still count. Showing up in a way that fits your life will always beat chasing perfection.
Why This Matters
When you stop chasing resolutions, you start building something more useful. Awareness > Direction > Control.
The new year is a reminder, not a test. A reminder that you can reset your focus at any point. Today, this week, mid February, whenever you need to with no slogans, no pressure, just intention. That’s how I’m approaching this year: Steady, honest and focused on what actually matters.
If you’re feeling overwhelmed by the noise of January, step back and reset and move forward in a way that makes sense for you.
