As we move through the summer months, I’ve made the conscious decision to take a proper break. Over the next few weeks, I’ve stepped back from teaching around 15 x Body Combat classes. For someone who’s used to a packed schedule and thrives on energy and movement, this wasn’t an easy call. But it was the right one.
Rest is Part of the Process
Taking time out doesn’t mean I’m stopping altogether. I’ll still be training, still keeping active, and still looking after my nutrition. But this is about slowing the pace, not coming to a halt. As instructors and fitness enthusiasts, we often feel like we have to keep going no matter what. But the truth is, taking a step back can give us the clarity, space and energy we need for what’s next.
August can be a strange month. People are away, routines shift, and things slow down. It’s also a natural point in the year to pause and reset. For me, it’s a chance to focus on a few personal projects that have been sitting on the back burner. I might even get away for a few days, switch off properly and just breathe a bit.
I want to enter autumn and winter feeling recharged, not burnt out.
Guilt-Free Downtime
Cancelling or releasing classes might feel strange. But I’ve had no regrets. The break was needed. Sometimes we think we always have to be available, always pushing. But you can’t pour from an empty cup, you’re allowed to rest. In fact, you need to rest.
What I’m Doing Instead
- Working on a few things behind the scenes that matter to me
- Spending quality time with the people I care about
- Moving at my own pace and staying active without pressure
- Taking a look at my goals for the rest of the year
If you’re reading this and feeling exhausted, consider it your sign. You don’t need to wait for burnout to take a break. Schedule time off, take that pause. Your body and mind will thank you.
A Final Thought
Fitness is a long game. It’s not about being perfect every week. It’s about staying consistent over time – and part of that means knowing when to push and when to pause. I’ll be back in September with fresh energy, new ideas, and ready to go again. Until then, take care of yourself.
