Why A Fitness Reset Can Move You Forward

Sometimes we all need to pause and assess and it maybe the best thing you can do for your body, not because you are giving up, but because you are choosing to train smarter, not harder, more efficient. A fitness reset is not a setback. It is a decision to check in with your ‘why’, your energy, your schedule and your physical condition, and make adjustments that support long term results.

I Reset Regularly

A reset is not a once-a-year emergency for me. It is something I do regularly, sometimes a few times a year, depending on what life looks like. It is a full assessment of how my current routine is working and what needs to change. Most recently, my fitness reset was shaped by two key things. First, I have been recovering from a rotator cuff injury (I am still going through physio, and I have to be mindful of how I train). Second, I have been teaching Les Mills Body Combat more often. Looking back over the months this year, I have been averaging about four Combat classes a week. That is a lot of high intensity cardio on top of everything else.

Instead of sticking to the plan just because it was written down, I paused and asked myself what is actually working for me right now. What is supporting my recovery? What is keeping my energy strong and my motivation consistent?

Why Resets Work

Shifting my focus to a routine that works for where I am today. That means:

  • Strength training two to three times a week, with an emphasis on good form and supporting my shoulder rehab
  • Cardio four times a week, which already includes my Body Combat classes
  • Building in flexibility for rest when I need it, especially on weeks where life outside the gym is more demanding

This reset is not about doing less. It is about doing what matters more – focusing on the path ahead. I am not training for the sake of training, sometimes you just need a step back to see the bigger picture. Maybe your goals have shifted, maybe your lifestyle has changed or maybe your body is telling you something you need to review.

So if you feel like something is not quite right, take that as your cue. Step back and make adjustments. Choose what works now, not what used to work then. Being productive is not about just your work life or life admin tasks, apply to your health and fitness goals and how you are feeling within yourself. That is not weakness. That is being in control of your journey.
